Jogging Through...

So, I know I've totally sucked at keeping my blog updated. Life has been very crazy lately. However, I have been keeping up with my running. I've been running 3 times a week since my last blog post. This week I'm scheduled to start my Pilates and Yoga classes at the local Y.

The running has been very frustrating for me. I put a lot of pressure on myself and I get upset when I don't meet the goals I expect myself to meet. As I've said, I'm following the Couch-To-5K plan and I've just started week 3. Technically I should be farther along than this but I won't let myself mark a day as "completed" unless I've actually been able to successfully (or for the most part successfully) complete the exercise they describe for that day. I struggled with week two and it took me an extra week. I am experiencing the same problem again with week 3. I know I will get past it and be successful, it's just taking my body extra time. My body has never, ever been exercised like this before!

The good news is this past Tuesday I had the most fantastic run ever! I was on week 2, day 2 which is made up of a 5 minute warm-up, intervals of 90 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking and then a 5 minute cool-down. I had an extremely stressful day at work and a stressful evening as we were leaving for Williamsburg the next day and I hadn't packed a thing. It was 8:15pm and I was finally able to go out for my run. It had been a hot day but the temperature had finally cooled down. I had also just downloaded a podcast for the C25K which played techno music and talked me through each interval. I think I actually experienced a little bit of a runners' high! It was awesome! During each jogging interval, it felt so good to run, I didn't want to stop! When the whole workout was over, I felt incredible. I was full of energy and I was excited, it was the best feeling ever. I was exhausted and sweaty of course, but I was happy. I don't know how quite to put it in words except it was fricking awesome! I don't know if it was running in the evening when it was nice and cool, if it was getting out all of that stress from the day, I'm not sure if it was the podcast...I haven't been able to get that high back...but my goal is to find it again.

Thank you all for your encouragement! I'm determined to stick with this!
