Run Shannon Run!

I have decided to embark on something new in the life of Shannon...getting in shape. Yep, never done it before! Figured it was about time. :)

So far, I'm actually pretty excited about the whole prospect and it's been a lot of fun to figure out what I'm going to do and set some goals for myself. I'm getting a lot of support from my friends and family and that's helping me push myself.

Here's the plan:
Run a 5k on November 20th in Olney, MD to support cancer patients who struggle from the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation. It's a "fun run" so there's no competition involved which I think will be good for me. The day consists of a wellness fair and includes lots of fun activities which I think will enrich the experience for me.
To get myself trained to run a 5K, I'm completing the C25K (couch to 5k). Thank you Lana! It's for couch potatoes like myself! It trains you step-by-step over a period of 9 weeks to go from sitting on your butt to running 3 miles over 30 minutes. Luckily, I'm giving myself some extra time in the event that I struggle since my lazy butt has never, ever been able to run even a mile!
Beginning the week after Labor Day, I'm also going to start taking a Pilates class at the local Y and start back up with Yoga again. I'm not nervous yet, but I know I will be when the time comes closer! There's nothing I hate more than going to a gym and being in a class. I feel very intimidated and self-conscious. BUT, I'm going to make myself do it. And what's going to make me do it? Well, the fact that I'm putting it out on the Internet and people are reading this! I will be so embarrassed if I have to come back and see I wussed out...so there, all of you get to hold me accountable and kick my butt if I don't do it!

So far I've completed 2 of my 3 days of week 1 of C25K. I'm not going to lie. It's miserable while I'm doing it. I'm waiting for that point where I'll enjoy it. Everyone says I'll get there. I'm waiting anxiously. :) In the meantime, I'm using a lot of really bad words.

So here's to hoping I can keep the positivity going!!!

  1. That's awesome Shan!!! Good for you! I've been a workout nut on and off for ten years and I never feel better than when I'm working out regularly! But my biggest issue is that it's time consuming! Find a time that works for and make it part of your routine, put it on your calendar, etc.

  2. Thank you!!! So you know I keep a million different calendars but I've already put my Pilates and Yoga classes on all of them as well as my running schedule. And I'm addicted to my calendars! So I'm thinking that should help!!! :)
