I have a week before the 5K I signed up for and I am very nervous. I'm almost finished the Couch-To-5K running plan. I'll finish it next week. I'm capable of running three miles, but I run a very long three miles. Speed is definitely not my fine point. I've been freaking myself out over the run next week, worrying about how cold it will be, how hilly the run will be, if it's too hilly - will I need to walk some of it (because I don't want to walk), worrying about if I'll need to use the bathroom while I'm running. All kinds of ridiculous thoughts have been going through my mind. I'm sure I'll be fine but I get like this with everything I do. I psych myself out. I probably won't sleep the night before either. Thank goodness it's on a Saturday so I'll have a day to recuperate before going back to work! I'm already checking on the weather reports for next Saturday so I can make sure I'm properly dressed. It's supposed to be in the 30s but then get up to the 50s. The run starts at 9am. I know I'll get warm while I'm running but my ears tend to stay cold and so do my fingers. So, I'm thinking a head warmer band and maybe some thin gloves but haven't decided for sure.
Ugh. I'm stressing myself just typing all of this. I know I'm a total loon. Please, please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks like this! Actually, don't tell me. I'd rather not know if I'm the only one! :) Can you imagine if I had kids? My poor kids.... It would be 50 degrees outside and I'd have them bundled up like a winter storm was coming, like the mom in A Christmas Story.
I am looking forward to the feeling of satisfaction I'm going to have when I complete the run. Knowing that I have done it. I'm the girl who couldn't run the mile in elementary school (or middle or high) and I will have completed a 5K (and for a good cause). I'm looking forward to that feeling!!! If I don't collapse first! :)
You aren't the only one! Nobody's paying attention to you but you, though. So as long as you are warm - and yes fleece ear band works wonders - and empty that bladder first you will be good. it will be done before you know it! Scope out the run before hand too if you can or even on google maps to see if there are hills.
ReplyDeleteI keep telling myself that, I know I'll be fine, I know I'll be fine!! I went to their website yesterday and they have the run on mapmyrun. It shows you a topographical view and the elevation and it actually doesn't look bad at all. Plus, I'm pretty familiar with the area and thankfully, it's a flat area! I'm not ready for lots of hills!
ReplyDeleteYou're killing me with your 5K times! I WISH my times were as good as yours!!!! You go!! I read an article though about how good spinning is for runners so you've been training yourself all this time already!!! You're going to do awesome on Turkey Day! Did you figure out where you're going to do your run? I think the next session of classes that the Y offers I'm going to look at the possibility of doing a spinning class, especially for the winter. I'm not a fan of running outside in the cold so I'm thinking the spinning will be good until the spring! :)
hey - i never got a notification that you had replied! You know i think spin is where it's at :) Let me know what you think of their class if yo try it. When is your 5K? Something my friend and trainer told me is that if you decide to walk any hills, it's really just as hard as running them - so keep going. Lots of positive thoughts and keep your mind open and clear! You will do so great.
ReplyDeleteThe 5K is this coming Saturday, the 20th. Good advice on the hills! Thank you! I know I'll keep pushing myself. I'll probably slow down but I doubt I'll let myself walk. :) Thanks for your support!!!! I'll let you know how it goes!!!
